For companies and organisations

Offer an internship to Computer Science master's students

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Antwerp is keen to work with companies and organisations that want to connect our master's students with the professional IT world. Through internship projects, events, vacancies, student jobs and other opportunities, our students gain insight into real-world experience and career paths within the IT sector.

Which projects are a good fit?

Most internships are part of the elective course Company Internship in the Computer Science master's programme. The student works for a company or organisation for at least 20 full working days. Despite the limited duration, companies often have positive experiences with our students, and students regularly work more than the minimum.

Clearly defined assignments work best, such as a feasibility study, a proof of concept or an exploratory analysis. Such assignments fit within the internship period and give the student a realistic view of the professional field.

Supervision

We ask companies to involve the student in a professional environment as much as possible, for example through office presence, meetings or taking part in day-to-day work. A dedicated internship mentor at your company provides follow-up, feedback and the final evaluation. At the university, an internship supervisor and the internship coordinator support the student.

How it works

  1. Create an account on ESP. Once the department has approved it, you can publish internship projects, events and vacancies.
  2. Publish your internship project with a short description of the assignment, your expectations, the location and a contact person.
  3. Interested students send their CV and a short motivation directly to that contact person.
  4. You agree on the planning with the student. The student registers the internship through the university's online registration procedure at least three weeks before the start. The student is only insured as an intern once it has been finally approved.
  5. At the end of the internship the student is evaluated, and the internship mentor gives feedback on the student's work.

Internship as a research project

An internship project can sometimes also run as a research project, although this is less common and not a given. The company and a professor from the department then jointly define a research question that the student investigates over a longer period. This requires a suitable supervisor, alignment with academic research and usually initiative from the student.

Other collaborations

With an ESP account you can also announce events and vacancies to our students. For other forms of collaboration, contact the department directly. For collaboration with or sponsorship of the student association WINAK, email pr@winak.be.

Through the department's LinkedIn page you can stay up to date with news, initiatives, events and updates about students, alumni and partners.
